2019 ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION WINNERS REWARDED
 
New Zealand High Commissioner to Fiji, Mr Jonathan Curr and Essay Competition judge, Dr Satendra Singh welcomed winners of the 2019 competition at the Official Residence in Suva on Saturday 14 September to a reception and Prize Giving.
 
Also attending were parents, several principals, Fiji Ministry of Education representatives including Deputy Director Mr Bure and Curriculum Unit director Sujata Singh.
 
The supreme winners of the 2019 competition are Selai Raraki, whose essay was submitted while she attended Seaqaqa College in Labasa, and Seremaia Naisua, from Xavier College in Ba.
 
Dr Singh and Lady June Hillary said in a statement, the winning essays were excellent examples of how words can create a voice/style with impact.
 
Selai wrote about a sinking island, facing erosion but determined to replant and save the village.
 
Seremaia wrote about practical aspects of daily life where young people can become climate change warriors, just picking up rubbish, eating right, traveling right and saving the future.

Supreme Winners Plaques were presented to Seaqaqa College and Xavier College. High Commissioner Curr and Dr Satendra Singh visited a number of schools and addressed assemblies. These included Labasa Sangam College, Seaqaqa College, All Saints College, Yat Sen Secondary, St Joseph's Secondary, Sila Central College and Naleba College.
 
Some former supreme winners of the competition, now in its 11th consecutive year, attended the prize giving to encourage students. They included Dr Sekai a medical doctor working in the Lau Group, USP final year students Alitia and Abhshek.
